Seeking Mentor – “Safe Return Doubtful!”

Mentor Test

As many of you will know I’m a passionate mentor. On average I mentor 6 people a year but continue to work with my previous mentees on a less formal basis and I must admit I absolutely love it.

For many years now I’ve been looking for a mentor. I have a few trusted people I talk to in times when I need advice and guidance, but I don’t have a mentor. Those of you who have gone out and found mentors understand how challenging and sometimes daunting it can be to pluck up the courage and ask someone to be their mentor and I applaud all those who do.

I thought I might take a different tact, use my network on Linked In and advertise that I need a great mentor for the coming year and maybe beyond.

So what am I looking for? I’m fascinated by the newspaper ad that Shackleton supposedly published for his South Pole Expedition. The ad said:

“Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success.”

Apparently he was inundated with over 5000 applications seeking adventure!!!

As much as my life can be interesting and exciting, I don’t expect quite so many applicants and we might not get to the dizzying heights of “safe return doubtful!”, but I believe the year could be one fascinating ride!

So here is my ad, calling for someone to mentor me and help guide me through the next phase of my adventure:

Mentor wanted for a fascinating journey into the unknown. New ideas, sense of humour, different thinking and a zest for life is essential. International experience of how to navigate through the choppy waters of business, both start up and enterprise preferred with a proven track record of success whilst keeping their feet firmly on the ground is a must. Overseas mentors welcome.

So for those of you interested, please take a look at my Linked In profile and if you think you would be a great fit to working with me, then please drop me a line. I’d love to have a chat about the opportunity of working together and achieving some exciting things.
